Help, and what’s new.
Most of what changes here comes from people using it, in a comment on the video or a message on Skool.
How to update
Updating is the same as installing. Paste the prompt into Claude Code or Codex again, in the same folder you installed it from. Or tell your Claude: update Amber Terminal from part-timequant.com/kit. Your layout stays as it is.
Where the numbers come from
The table on the main page lists every source and how fresh it is. What it doesn’t have: a live order book, real-time prices on every exchange in the world, analyst estimates, and bond and credit data. Use your broker’s prices to place orders.
What’s new
Every change is live in the download. Paste the prompt again to get them.
- ETFs on DES, options in PORT, OMON by date
QQQ, SPY and other ETFs now open on DES with the fund's description and key data instead of an error. ETF QQQ and QQQ CHART work on the command line. PORT ADD adds to a holding (PORT SET replaces it), and PORT holds US options and LEAPs, typed like AAPL 2027-01-15 C200. OMON takes an expiry by date (OMON AAPL 2027-01-15) or month (OMON AAPL JAN27).
A Skool message - BTST: limit entries at a price you choose
A strategy can now enter with a limit order instead of at the next open, at a level such as an older high or low or a 20-bar channel. It fills only if price reaches that level within the bars you allow, and is cancelled if it doesn't. Ask Claude to add a limit entry to your BTST strategy.
A Skool comment - LIVE switch on WEI, GLCO and GP
Press LIVE at the top of WEI or GLCO and prices refresh every 5 seconds, with each one that moved flashing green or red. On GP and GIP it moves the last bar with the latest price every 5 seconds. Press it again to go back to the normal refresh.
A YouTube comment - BQ: quotes with pre-market and after hours
Type a ticker then BQ, like AAPL BQ, for the last price next to the pre-market and after-hours prices, each with the time of its last trade, plus bid, ask and the day's range. It refreshes every 30 seconds.
A YouTube comment - Enter a BTST strategy in the monthly competition
BTST now says how to enter a strategy in Part-Time Quant Academy's monthly competition: ask Claude for it as JSON, then paste it into Import a strategy from Amber Terminal on the competition page. The entry and exit rules come across, and the builder there sets its own stop and position size before its checks run.
A Skool comment - Search finds home listings like SK hynix
Typing a company name now lists the company's own shares before the ETFs built on it, so SK hynix shows 000660 KS instead of a page of leveraged funds. You can also type a number ticker like 000660 or 7203 to look it up.
A YouTube comment - BTST keeps the exact bars it tested on
Every BTST run through Claude saves a dated copy of its bars with a SHA-256 hash in data/btst-snapshots. Ask Claude to rerun with replay and the snapshot id to get the same answer next month, even after Yahoo restates its history. The PTQ connector also checks that PTQ is really what answers on its port before it sends anything.
A Skool comment - Use your own data key
Add an Alpaca or Polygon key in data/feeds.json and US stock prices use it first. An Alpaca account costs nothing and gives live prices. The key stays on your computer, the public sources stay behind it, and each screen says which source it used.

Questions people ask
How do I type a symbol?
Type the symbol, then a function code, then press Enter. A US stock is AAPL US EQUITY, and a stock in another market takes its exchange code, like VOD LN for Vodafone in London. An index is SPX INDEX, a future is CL1 COMDTY, a currency pair is EURUSD CURNCY, and crypto is just BTC. So AAPL US EQUITY DES gives you Apple’s description. Type HELP for every function.
Why does a screen say delayed?
Stock, index and futures prices run up to 15 minutes behind, depending on the exchange, and options are 15 minutes behind. Crypto is live. Type DATA in the app to see the source and freshness of every screen.
Options only work for US stocks
Options come from CBOE, which covers US-listed securities. For a stock listed somewhere else, the options screen has nothing to show.
Filings, insiders and holders are US-only
Filings and insider trades come from SEC EDGAR, and holders come from Nasdaq’s 13F data. Both cover US-listed companies, so a company listed only outside the US has nothing on those screens.
The install stopped, or Claude asked for permission
Claude Code’s auto mode and safety checks sometimes block a download. The prompt hands you the command to run yourself, one at a time, and the permission rule if you’d rather allow it. Once that’s done, paste the prompt again in the same folder.
Does Claude need to stay open?
Only for the install. After that, double-click start.command on a Mac or start.bat on Windows, run ./start.sh on Linux, or run node scripts/launch.js in the amber-terminal folder. Stop it with node scripts/stop.js.
Does the Bloomberg keyboard work?
The parts a normal keyboard can do: Enter is GO, Esc goes back, F8 adds EQUITY, F9 CMDTY, F10 INDEX, F11 CRNCY, and F1 opens HELP. Start typing a company name and it offers the ticker. Ctrl or Cmd plus 1 to 4 picks a panel.
Can I plug in my own paid data feed?
Yes. For US stock prices, an Alpaca or Polygon key plugs straight in: make a file called feeds.json in the data folder inside amber-terminal, like {"alpaca": {"keyId": "PK...", "secretKey": "..."}} or {"polygon": {"apiKey": "..."}}. An Alpaca account costs nothing and gives live prices on the IEX feed. The key stays on your computer, and each screen’s source line says which feed it used. For any other provider, like Interactive Brokers, ask Claude in the amber-terminal folder to add it with your own key.
Can I get the data into Excel or Python?
Every table has an export button that saves a spreadsheet file. The app also answers Bloomberg-style BDH and BDP requests as web addresses on your own computer, so Excel's From Web and Python's pandas on that computer can pull from it. Type API in the app for the exact links.
How do I connect Claude to it?
Type ASK in the app. It shows one line to paste into your terminal, then Claude can read every screen and answer questions like "what does the futures market price for the next Fed meeting?" from the same public data.
Will Bloomberg mind?
It's my own code, built from Bloomberg's public pages and published help guides and from public data. The function names describe what each screen does. It isn't affiliated with Bloomberg or endorsed by it.
Does it work on Windows?
Yes. Windows, Mac and Linux, with Node.js 18 or newer. On Windows, double-click start.bat to open it next time.
Where is my layout saved?
In the data folder inside amber-terminal, on your computer. Updates leave it alone, so your layout carries over.
Still stuck?
