Refund and Cancellation Policy — Part-Time Quant (part-timequant.com)
Version: 0.1 (draft) Last updated: 27 August 2026 Operator: Lewis Jackson Ventures Ltd (registered in England and Wales, company number 14843004), 46 Priory Road, Reigate, Surrey, RH2 8JB, United Kingdom Contact: lewis@jackson.ventures
1. The short version
- The PTQ paid plan (the "Paid Plan" in our Terms of Service) costs $997 per year, billed annually through Stripe.
- If you are a consumer, UK law gives you a 14-day cancellation right for distance purchases. Section 4 explains it, including what happens because we give you access immediately.
- Beyond the law, there are no refunds. We do not run a goodwill or discretionary refund scheme. See section 5.
- Refunds go back to your original payment method via Stripe. When a refund is issued, your licence key is revoked automatically and the desktop app stops accepting it. See section 6.
- You can switch off auto-renewal at any time and keep access until the end of the year you paid for. See section 8.
- Nothing here reduces your statutory rights. See section 11.
2. What you are buying
A PTQ Paid Plan subscription is a single annual plan that includes:
- The hosted service — full access to the PTQ web platform (strategy tools, statistical validation, paper trading with simulated fills, expanded credits), delivered as an ongoing online service for the subscription year.
- A licence key for the desktop application — downloadable software you install on your own machine (2 device seats), plus the Claude MCP connector. Live trading, if you choose to do it, happens only in the desktop app, on your machine, with your own broker keys.
PTQ is an educational and analytical tool. It is not investment advice, not portfolio management, and not a signals service. Refunds are never conditional on your trading results, and trading losses are never grounds for a refund (section 10) — the two are unrelated by design.
This policy is written for consumers (individuals buying for purposes mainly outside a trade, business, or profession). If you buy as a business, see section 12.
3. Where this policy applies
We sell to supported jurisdictions only. Checkout records your jurisdiction and blocks purchases from unsupported ones. This policy is written under the law of the United Kingdom for UK consumers. If you buy from another supported jurisdiction, local consumer law may give you additional rights, and nothing in this policy takes them away.
4. Your statutory 14-day cancellation right (UK consumers)
Because you buy from us at a distance (online), the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 give you the right to cancel within 14 days without giving a reason.
The 14 days run from the day the contract is made (the day you subscribe).
4.1 The complication: we give you everything immediately
Your subscription mixes two things the Regulations treat differently:
- The hosted platform is a service. If you ask us to start providing a service during the 14-day period and then cancel, the law says you pay for the proportion of the service already provided, and we refund the rest. The right to cancel is lost entirely once the service has been fully performed — which, for a year-long subscription, does not happen within 14 days.
- The desktop software is digital content not supplied on a tangible medium. For digital content, the cancellation right is lost as soon as supply begins (i.e. when you download or first activate the software) — but only if, before supply began, you (a) gave express consent to immediate supply, and (b) acknowledged that you would lose your cancellation right as a result, and (c) we confirmed the contract, including that acknowledgement, on a durable medium (our confirmation email).
4.2 What we ask you at checkout
Before payment, checkout asks you to confirm two separate things, in two separate boxes. Neither is ticked for you, and both must be ticked before we can take the payment:
- Start the service now. You ask us to begin the hosted service inside your 14-day cancellation period. The consequence is that if you cancel within those 14 days you pay a proportionate amount for the part of the service already supplied, and the rest is refunded. It does not make your subscription non-refundable.
- Supply the software now. You expressly consent to immediate supply of the downloadable desktop software and its licence key, and acknowledge that you lose your statutory right to cancel that software once you download or activate it. It does not affect your 14-day cancellation right for the hosted service.
They are kept separate because they are different things with different consequences, and putting them behind one tick would misstate both.
The full text of each is shown before payment, never behind a link or a tooltip. We record the exact wording you were shown, the version of that wording and the time you agreed, and we confirm it back to you in writing. You can read the stored wording, its version and the date at any time in the app, under Account. If we change the wording, that creates a new version; your record continues to point at the words you actually saw.
How a supply that mixes a hosted service with downloadable software should be treated under the Regulations is a question our solicitor is reviewing. We have implemented the stricter reading — two supplies, two consents — rather than the one most favourable to us.
4.3 What cancelling within 14 days gets you (statutory route)
If you cancel within 14 days under your statutory right:
- If you never downloaded or activated the desktop software: we refund in line with the Regulations — in practice, the price less a proportionate charge for the days of hosted service you had, if you requested immediate access. On a $997 annual plan, the proportionate charge for a few days is small.
- If you downloaded or activated the desktop software after giving the consent and acknowledgement above: your statutory cancellation right for the digital content is lost. Your statutory position on the hosted-service element is unchanged.
This statutory route is the only route. We offer nothing beyond it (section 5), so the rights described here are your rights in full.
4.4 How to exercise the statutory right
Tell us, within the 14 days, by a clear statement — email to lewis@jackson.ventures is easiest. You may use the model cancellation form in section 13 but you do not have to. We will acknowledge receipt by email and refund within 14 days of your cancellation, using the same payment method you used, at no fee.
5. Refunds beyond your statutory rights — there are none
Lewis's decision, 27 Aug 2026: the statutory minimum, and nothing beyond it.
We do not operate a discretionary or goodwill refund policy. Outside the statutory cancellation right in section 4 there is no refund — including for part-used subscription years, change of mind, or a strategy not performing as you hoped. You can switch off auto-renewal at any time and keep everything you have paid for until the year ends (section 8).
Two consequences of choosing the statutory floor, stated plainly here because they are the whole substance of this policy:
- Your cancellation right for the downloadable software ends the moment you download or activate it — provided we take your express consent and acknowledgement at checkout and confirm them to you in writing (section 4.2). Most buyers download immediately, so in practice that right is short-lived.
- The hosted service is different. If you cancel within 14 days you pay only for the proportion of the service already supplied and we refund the rest. The waiver in point 1 does not remove that; it is not a way to keep the whole fee for a service barely used.
6. How refunds are processed — read this before requesting one
- Email lewis@jackson.ventures from the address on your account. No forms, no phone calls, no retention scripts.
- We process refunds through Stripe, back to the original payment method. We initiate promptly (the statutory deadline of 14 days applies to every cancellation under section 4). Your bank typically takes 5–10 business days to show the money.
- The refund is the amount you paid. If your card was charged in another currency, your card issuer's exchange rate on the refund date applies; we do not control exchange-rate differences or any card-issuer fees.
- Licence revocation is automatic. When a refund is issued, our systems revoke your licence key without any manual step. The desktop app stops accepting the key the next time it checks the licence at most 3 days, the lifetime of a licence lease. Both device seats are cleared. This is a deliberate, disclosed consequence of every refund — not a penalty.
- On refund your account locks: there is one plan and no tier beneath it, so the product stops opening. Your records are kept, not destroyed — your strategies, settings and paper-trade history stay on the account, and access returns if you subscribe again. Export and deletion are never behind the paywall: you can download everything as JSON at any time, before or after a refund, and deleting your account erases it.
- Anything on your own machine is yours and untouched. We never hold your broker keys or your money, so there is nothing broker-side for us to unwind.
- Stripe retains payment records as required for accounting and tax law even after account deletion, as described in the Privacy Policy.
7. Chargebacks
If something is wrong, contact us first — we refund fast and without argument inside the windows above, so a chargeback is almost never the quicker route.
If you open a chargeback (payment dispute) with your bank:
- We will respond to the dispute through Stripe with our records: purchase, consent-gate acknowledgement, licence activation, and service-usage logs.
- Your account and licence key may be suspended while the dispute is open, because the payment for them is contested.
- If the dispute resolves in your favour, that outcome stands and your subscription ends; we treat it like a refund, including automatic licence revocation.
- If the dispute resolves in our favour, we will restore access on request.
- We reserve the right to refuse future purchases from customers who bring chargebacks we can show to be unfounded, and to recover dispute fees where the law allows.
8. Renewals
- The subscription renews automatically every 12 months at the then-current price, charged to your saved payment method via Stripe.
- We will email you a reminder before each renewal 30 days, and again 7 days, stating the amount, the date, and a one-click way to switch off renewal.
- You can switch off auto-renewal at any time in the billing portal (Stripe customer portal, linked from your account settings). Switching it off never shortens the period you have already paid for.
- If a renewal charges and you did not want it: section 5's proposed 14-day renewal refund applies, no questions asked.
9. Price changes
If the renewal price will be higher than what you paid, we will say so clearly in the renewal reminder, in the email subject line, with the old and new price side by side. If you do nothing and are charged, the renewal refund window in section 5 still applies.
10. What refunds are never about
- Trading results. PTQ provides tooling and statistical validation. Most strategies fail our validation gate by design — that is the product working, not a defect. Losses in live trading (which happens only on your machine, under your control, behind your own arming step) are not grounds for a refund, and profits are not a promise anywhere in our materials.
- Credits used. Using your monthly credits does not create a deduction from a statutory refund. For the hosted service the proportionate-payment rule in section 4 already accounts for use; we do not additionally claw back metered credits.
- Feature requests. "It does not do X" where we never said it does X is a reason to refund within the window, not after it.
11. Your statutory rights are untouched
Nothing in this policy limits your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or any other law that applies to you. In particular, digital content and services we supply must be as described, of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and (for services) provided with reasonable care and skill. If they are not, the law gives you remedies — repair or replacement, price reduction, or refund — that exist independently of, and in addition to, everything above, without time limits set by us.
If we ever damage your device or other digital content because our software failed to use reasonable care and skill, the Consumer Rights Act gives you a right to a remedy for that too.
12. Business purchasers
The Consumer Contracts Regulations and Consumer Rights Act rights described above apply to consumers, not businesses. If you purchase in the course of business, the statutory consumer regime does not apply and — since we offer no policy beyond it (section 5) — there is no refund right outside the Terms of Service.
13. Model cancellation form
(Complete and return this form only if you wish to withdraw from the contract under your statutory right. Email is fine; you do not need this form.)
